Community Bank® bus for our senior residents

Tongala’s senior citizens will not miss out on a single community event in coming years thanks to the purchase of a community bus.

The Aged Care Bus has been funded by Tongala Community Bank® Branch and is one of the many major projects funded by the Community Bank and ongoing profits from Bendigo Bank Telco will assist the funding of day to day running costs of the vehicle.

The Bus will be run throughout Tongala in conjunction with the Tongala Aged Care Complex.

Chairman Richard Herbert said he was thrilled that the Community Bank® branch was now in a position to use its Telco income to benefit the local community.

“What a wonderful way to spend our Telco profit allocation,” Mr Herbert said.
“I am proud to be Chairman of a board which has opted to recognise this important sector within our community.”

The key to the bus will be handed over to the Tongala Aged Care Management at the Tongala Aged Care Complex on Tuesday, 18 March 2008.

“Our Community Bank® branch was always about ensuring that our community had access to a traditional bank branch to Tongala,” Mr Herbert said.

“Having achieved that, the community further proved its support by embracing our Bendigo Telco initiative

“This just goes to show the level of community support by locals is alive and well in the district.

“By simply taking control of the community’s telephone, mobile and internet services, the profits made have enabled us to support this worthwhile community project.

“In time, the profits will be significant and enable further funding of worthwhile community projects such as this, and others of a much larger scale,” Mr Herbert said.

Jean Courtney, Director of Nursing of the Tongala Aged Care Complex said the association was pleased to be associated with the Tongala Community Bank® Branch and thankful for their support.

“The branch is renowned for its commitment to the Tongala community and those are the ideals the Tongala Aged Care Complex aspires to - this is a great match,” Jean Courtney said.
