 Internet FAQs

What is Dialup Internet?

Dialup internet is a way of gaining Internet access through standard telephone lines. Any home in Australia with a phone line can access the internet in this way. Despite being the way people have connected to the internet for many years, it is being steadily replaced by broadband internet (or ADSL) connections. Nowadays ADSL subscription plans are of a similar cost to slower dial-up access, however setup or connection costs are usually incurred.

What is ADSL Broadband?

Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) is a form of High speed Broadband Internet, a data communications technology that enables faster data transmission over a normal telephone line/s than a conventional modem can provide.
ADSL uses the data component of the phone line so that you are able to use your phone in a normal manner without disrupting your Internet connection and vice versa. This translates to being able to access the Internet at high speed and talk on your phone at the same time. This can save a lot of money in the average household as you don’t need to dial into the Internet, its “always on”.

Which one is the best for me?

Generally speaking, ADSL Broadband is the better choice as it has many advantages over dialup internet, despite the set up costs. It allows high speed connection without tying up your phone line which in turn can potentially save money on call costs and line rental (if a second line has been installed for internet use).

Can everyone get ADSL Broadband?

Unfortunately not everyone can get ADSL Broadband. This service requires major work to be completed on your local Telephone Exchange.
To find out if you or someone you know can get ADSL Broadband in your area, please call Bendigo Bank Telco.
